How to configure a Netgear wireless router using Smart Wizard

To configure a Netgear wireless router for cable internet connection with Smart setup Wizard:
  • Connect your broadband modem to the internet port of your Netgear wireless router and your computer/PC/desktop to the four LAN ports (any).
  • Turn off your modem, router, and the computer. Wait for a few minutes and after that, turn them on again one by one.
  • Now, head towards your computer.
  • Launch a web browser in it.
  • Type the web address www.routerlogin.net in its address/URL bar and hit the enter key.
  • You will be prompt to access the Netgear router login page.
  • When prompt, please enter the default username and password. If you have personalized the details, it is recommended to use them instead of the default ones.
  • Click on the 'setup wizard' option and the setup wizard screen will be displayed.
  • Click on 'yes' and after that, hit the 'next>'button.
It will automatically detect the type of WiFi/internet connection. As a matter of fact, for 'cable internet connection' it (setup wizard) will detect the 'dynamic IP'.
  • Click on 'next' button and your Netgear wireless router will save the settings automatically.
Note: It is strictly recommended – do not change the default settings until unless your internet service provider (ISP) gives you specific DNS (Domain Name System) information.

Select the 'router status' under the 'maintenance' option and check whether you are connected to the internet or not.
  • Have a look at the IP address field and whether you have a valid IP address or not (that should be not filled with zeros like 0.0.0.0).
And if you own a Netgear WiFi router with a Netgear Genie user interface, then follow the steps below.
  • Unplug your main modem and the Netgear wireless router as well.
  • After that, connect an Ethernet cable from your broadband modem to the internet port of your Netgear router.
  • Grab another Ethernet cable to connect the computer and router with each other.
Note: Insert the back-up battery again (if your modem has any) and reconnect your broadband modem power.
  • Now, reconnect the power of your Netgear router and wait for a couple of minutes for the power LED on it become solid green.
  • Open a relevant internet browser. Enter Netgear router login IP address (default) i.e. 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the URL ar and hit the enter key.
  • You will be prompt to access the Netgear wireless router login page. Enter the default or personalized login credentials.
  • Click on 'advanced' and after that, on the 'setup wizard' option.
  • Tick on 'yes' and then tap on 'next'.
  • As a matter of fact, the 'setup wizard' will automatically detect the type of the internet connection. It might take a few minutes to complete the procedure.
  • Once the Netgear WiFi router setup process has finished configuring the internet connection, a 'congratulations' page will be displayed.
  • At last, click on 'take me to the internet' option to test your connection.
If you have forgotten or lost your personalized or default login details, then perform a factory reset on your Netgear router.

Please note this down that a factory reset process will delete all the personalized settings including your username, WiFi network name (SSID), password, and the security settings. As a matter of fact, a factory reset process is important when you fail to recover your routerlogin net admin password.
  • Verify that your Netgear router’s power light is on.
  • Now, on the back panel of your wireless router, locate the reset button/hole.
  • Use a paper clip.
  • Insert it into the reset hole of your wireless router gently and carefully.
  • Keep holding it for a few seconds and after that, release it.
Your router resets successfully.
